The N.R.A. “Good Guys With Guns” Test

N.R.A. vice president Wayne LaPierre thinking over his next brilliant idea

Last week in response to the Newtown massacre, N.R.A. vice president Wayne LaPierre gave a speech in which he said, “The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.” He then went on to call for armed guards in every school in America.

While most people reacted to those statements with incredulous disdain, I’m willing to give Mr. LaPierre the benefit of the doubt. Maybe having “good guys” with guns in our schools is the solution. The question then is, how do we ensure that the armed guards we put in our schools are, in fact, “good guys”, i.e., how do we filter the “good” from the “bad”?

Luckily, the N.R.A. has answers to those questions in the form of a new test they’ve developed. Using some of my contacts within the organization, I was able to get my hands on a copy, which I’ve posted below. Take it yourself. Are you a “good guy”?
