Mitt Romney Has Never Used a Teleprompter, Obama is Stupid

Republicans inexplicably hate President Obama’s teleprompter. And it’s a line of attack given new life this afternoon by Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley, who tweeted:

As Romney speaks notice he is smart enough to do so wo TelePrompTer unlike obama.

Grassley, who’s well known in political social media circles as one who dismantles the English language with expert precision, is in line to be the Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee if Governor Romney wins this fall.

What’s most interesting about this tweet is not Grassley’s teleprompter attack (even though Mitt Romney obviously uses a teleprompter himself), nor is it his odd choice of capitalization. It’s the idea that he characterizes Obama as stupid. Granted, he’s certainly not the first Republican critic to call the President stupid. But usually that line of attack is reserved for the faceless hoards of mouth breathers who comment anonymously online. Here, a Senator of the United States is not only calling his President stupid, but he’s calling a constitutional scholar stupid. Like his politics or not, it’s a baseless attack. The guy is smart: period. Smarter than me and probably smarter than you.

If Obama is stupid, then what does that say about the American people who overwhelmingly supported him in 2008? Is Grassley calling a majority of the American electorate stupid? Using Grassley logic, that seems to be the case. So perhaps a better tweet would be, “Grsly thnks AmCan ppl R stpid.”
